My Little Tragedy

My Little Tragedy is a participatory video installation centering on a washed-up My Little Pony toy from the 2019 MSC Zoe container spill. Displayed on a large horizontal screen the pony appears eroded and dishevelled, with sand, shells, and tangled hair, and addresses audiences directly. Over a five-minute loop, it introduces viewers to the global lifecycle of plastic before inviting them to participate in a short karaoke song: an uncomfortably celebratory list of everyday plastic consumption.

The installation combines 3D animation, responsive sound, interactive lighting, and audience participation, making plastic pollution tangible, playful, and emotionally resonant. By transforming a distant environmental issue into a participatory, embodied experience, the work evokes curiosity, playful joy, conceptual discomfort, and reflection, allowing audiences to confront plastic’s ubiquity while engaging in communal performance.

The work will be presented in June 2026 during Oerol Festival on Terschelling as part of the Visual Arts Programme.
